This is the MISA debut of Laura Fygi, another diva at 2014 MISA!
Laura Fygi is a Dutch singer. In 1991, Laura made a solo album Introducing, which went platinum won a prestigious Dutch Edison Award. Her 1993 album Bewitched was in Billboard’s Jazz chart for weeks, which is a unique achievement for a Dutch artist.
Songs of the concert will be selected from past albums of Laura Fygi, including Bewitched in 1993, The Lady Wants to Know in 1994 and classical movie soundtrack album Watch What Happens in collaboration with French Maestro Michel Legrand in 1997. Laura Fygi is a fervent lover of Chinese music. She has released an album named Flower on Chinese songs, including classic hits like If a Life without You, Southern Sea Girl and New Endless Love. What’s more, her Chinese pronunciation in those songs is nothing but authentic.
In the concert, she also sang a number of classic Latin songs, of which Quizás, Quizás, Quizás, featured in the film In the Mood for Love, is well-known among the Chinese audience. As a matter of fact, she has sung cover versions of many film songs and excerpts from musicals, e.g. Watch What Happens and I Will Wait for You from the film The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, both of which have already been featured in cover songs by numerous artists. The thoroughly funny Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend is a famous selection from Marilyn Monroe’s musical film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. In comparison, Till There Was You, from the musical film The Music Man, creates a rather romantic atmosphere by using gorgeously colorful harmonies, telling the joy of love.
