Sven Geipel, born in Greiz/Thürigen, Germany, took his first trumpet lessons at age five from his father (also a trumpeter in Sinfonieorchester Greiz). After three (very) long years of recorder lessons at the “Bernhard Stavenhagen” Music School in Greiz, Geipel began his studies on trumpet under Günther Luck at the Carl-Maria von Weber Music Conservatory in Dresden. Sven Geipel has served as Principal Trumpet of the Rundfunk-Blasorchester Leipzig (currently Sächsischen Bläserphilharmonie), and lecturer at the German Wind Academy. He founded the RBO-Brassquintett Leipzig in 1993 and became a founding member of the Leipzig Bigband in 1999. Geipel was appointed as the lecturer in “El Sistema” in Venezuela 2011 and regular extra/substitute work in well-known German orchestras.
